Two Central Florida students arrested for making a joking school shooting threat on Snapchat

Two Central Florida students were arrested for making a school shooting threat on Snapchat, which they later claimed was a hoax.

Volusia County students were arrested on felony charges after posting threats to carry out a school shooting.

According to local police, the School Resource Deputy at Taylor Middle-High School in Pierson responded after the post was reported.

17-year-old Trinity Mack sent a photo via Snapchat with the caption “I’m going to raid the school,” with her school laptop visible in the background.

Brayden Severance, 16, replied, “Same.”

This came just after Taylor Middle High School sent an announcement to the entire student body warning that all threats would be taken seriously and that “jokes” were not only unacceptable but could result in expulsion and arrest.

Both students were taken into custody on charges of making written threats to commit a mass shooting, taken to the Volusia Family Resource Center for case processing, and then transferred to the juvenile justice system for placement in closed custody.
