Brazilian woman arrested after 124 cocaine capsules found in her body

The woman was intercepted in a targeted attack after landing from Sao Paulo.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a Brazilian woman after seizing 124 capsules filled with cocaine that she swallowed before landing at Mumbai international airport, an official said.

The value of the seized contraband brought to India for smuggling is estimated at Rs 973 million, he said, adding that investigations are underway to trace other members of the international drug syndicate.

The woman was intercepted on Wednesday after landing from Sao Paulo following a targeted request, an official from the DRI Mumbai zonal unit said on Sunday.

The passenger admitted to taking drug capsules and carrying them in her body with the intention of smuggling them into India. She was produced before a magistrate and admitted to the government JJ ​​Hospital.

“She stole 124 capsules containing 973 grams of cocaine worth Rs 973 million from the illegal market. The substance, alleged to be cocaine according to the field test report, was seized on Saturday under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” the official said.

The passenger has been arrested and further investigations are underway to identify other members of the international drug syndicate, the official added.
