Interstate 5 in Everett partially closed after double shooting and chase

One person died and another was injured in a shooting involving two men in South Everett.

The incident occurred in the 1100 block of West Casino Road and caused hours of traffic jams on northbound and southbound I-5 while police caught up with the suspect in a short chase.

Everett police said officers received a call at around 1:05 p.m. that shots had been fired at the Park View Apartments. They found a man dead and a woman with non-life-threatening injuries. She was taken to the hospital and witnesses told officers that the suspected shooter fled in a vehicle.

Approximately 45 minutes after the reported shooting, officers located the suspect's vehicle and began pursuit near 19th Avenue SE and El Capitan Way, following the suspect onto I-5 North.

After a short chase, the suspect's vehicle crashed near the MP 190, police said.

Officials said uninvolved vehicles were involved in the crash, but shortly afterward, officers heard gunshots coming from the suspect's vehicle. Officers were then able to approach the vehicle and found the suspect was dead. Police did not fire any shots.

I-5 North and South were initially closed, but I-5 South was reopened shortly thereafter.

Neighbor Cameron Cushman said he would like to see more police patrols and other support from the city to keep families safe.

“We just talked to some neighbors about whether the city would start putting up lights or cameras here, because that's the problem area,” he explained.
