Almost £10,000 has been raised for the family of a teenager who died in a road accident on the Mersea Road

A GoFundMe page has raised thousands of pounds for the family of a teenager who died in a car crash.

The boy, identified as 13-year-old Taylen, was involved in an incident on Mersea Road outside the Cherry Tree Pub at around 9.20pm on Saturday.

A GoFundMe account has now been set up for him and has already raised thousands of pounds for Taylen's family.

The page states: “Any support is greatly appreciated to help the family with whatever they need during this terrible time.”

“We are all absolutely devastated and hope that the community will come together to help this poor family who have helped so many others before.”

The incident devastated the area and even caused the Cherry Tree Pub to close its doors out of respect.

Taylen also received numerous expressions of condolence; many people were shocked and saddened by his untimely death.

Taylen was taken to hospital but died despite the best efforts of emergency services and hospital staff.

On the Gazette's Facebook page, Zan Zee Di wrote: “My beautiful boy, I am forever heartbroken. I love you so much. Fly high my special boy xx”

Mia Philpot added: “RIP Taylen fly high, wishes to your family and friends, you will be missed.”

Three people were arrested as part of Essex Police's investigation.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We were called to Mersea Road in Colchester just before 9.20pm on Saturday 21 September following a report of a serious collision between a car and a pedestrian.”

“A teenager was taken to hospital where he unfortunately died.

“Three people were arrested as part of this investigation.

“Our investigation continues to clarify the events leading up to the collision and we would like to speak to anyone who may have information about the incident or dashcam footage and has not previously spoken to us.

“If you have any information, CCTV or dashboard camera footage or any other footage relating to this incident, please contact us.”

Thousands have already been raised for Taylen’s family.
