Richard Osman has revealed that he has written an inside joke about the film “The Thursday Murder Club” in his next book in the series.

The House of Games host has just released We Solve Murders, the fourth book in the series, while filming on the movie adaptation is complete. Appearing on Saturday Kitchen today (21 September), he revealed that he has already started writing the fifth book and that aspects of the film have already been incorporated into the writing.

“I've literally just started 'Thursday Murder Club 5',” he told host Matt Tebbutt, “by that I mean I've written 'Thursday Murder Club 5' at the top of the newspaper and that's half the job, to be honest!”

“About two minutes, because I love these characters so much and I care about them so much and, you know, that's where they come from.

“But the first time, I literally wrote a scene with Ron, the Labour activist, and when I wrote just the first paragraph, I had Pierce Brosnan in my head. And I thought, 'Remember, that's not who he is. He's a person in your head.'

“So after spending the summer being on set, I had to forget that Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie and Pierce Brosnan, you know, [the cast]. I do a little scene where Ron and Ibrahim start the scene talking about who their favorite Bond is. And Ron says, “Oh, my favorite Bond is Pierce Brosnan.”

“And I told Pierce Brosnan about it, and yes, he agreed!”

While future books may include small jokes or references to the film, Osman stressed that he will not pressure filmmakers to incorporate certain elements from the books.

“You always have to trust good people in your career,” he explained. “You trust good people, and that's why… I handed it over to them.”

The film “Thursday Murder Club” is set to hit theaters and Netflix next year, while all four books are available now.
