Last week, a man was arrested for allegedly choking a woman with a seatbelt near Ava and fleeing before authorities arrived. Todd Chance, 38, was booked into the Douglas County Jail on $100,000 bail.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, a deputy and an Ava officer responded to a report of a woman on foot who appeared to be injured and disoriented. It was determined that the victim had allegedly just been attacked by Chance and choked with the seatbelt. She was taken by ambulance to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Chance had reportedly fled the scene. Sheriff Chris Degase advised the deputy that he knew Chance from previous contact and that a family member of Chance's lived west of Ava. Chance was found at the residence on Missouri Route Y and taken into custody by the deputy and officer. He reportedly attempted to resist arrest and methamphetamine was also found on him.

Chance faces charges of first-degree domestic violence, armed criminal action, resisting government authority, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence and delivery or possession of a controlled substance in a county jail.
