Man Wanted in New Hampshire Arrested After Accident in Groton – NBC Connecticut

A man wanted in New Hampshire was arrested over the weekend following an accident in Groton.

The dispatch center received several emergency calls around 7:15 a.m. Sunday regarding an accident near Esker Point Beach on Groton Long Point Road.

Officers quickly arrived and found a 2024 Kia ​​Soul lying on its side on the edge of the beach on the grass near the volleyball courts. Police said the vehicle was unoccupied, but a witness reported seeing a man fleeing the scene on foot on Marsh Road toward Noble Avenue.

During the investigation, authorities determined the Kia had been stolen in Salem, New Hampshire, and said the suspect was identified as 37-year-old Christopher Doleo of Lowell, Massachusetts. Police say Doleo has an extensive, violent criminal history in multiple states.

Police deployed two canine units and a drone to search for Doleo near Noble Avenue. Witnesses reportedly saw him near a specific home on Noble Avenue. Officers said Doleo was found hiding in a crawl space under the home and taken into custody.

Investigators said a criminal background check on Doleo revealed he was wanted by police in Salem, New Hampshire, on two counts of theft and one count of contempt of court.

Doleo is now facing charges including car theft, obstruction of police work, burglary, disturbing the peace, reckless driving, evading responsibility, driving a vehicle without a license and extradition detention/escape from justice.

He was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident. He was then returned to police headquarters and is being held on $200,000 bail.
