Sixth-grader who threatened to shoot a teacher in the head appeared in court on Monday

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) – A Tri-State sixth-grader accused of threatening to shoot a teacher is scheduled to make his initial court appearance at 11 a.m. Monday.

The boy, who attends the West Clermont School District, was charged Friday with two misdemeanors: disturbing the peace in a school zone and aggravated menacing, according to Clermont County Sheriff Steve Leahy.

He was held without bail at the Clermont County Juvenile Detention Center over the weekend.

According to the sheriff, the juvenile has been suspended from school pending further disciplinary action.

The boy reportedly told students Friday morning that he planned to shoot a specific teacher and implied that he had a gun in his school bag, Leahy said.

The child was removed from the classroom and school officials searched his belongings.

They determined that he was not carrying any weapons and that there was no active threat to anyone on school grounds, the sheriff said.

The boy told investigators that he made the threat but had no plan to carry it out and that he did not have access to weapons, the sheriff said.

Investigators also verified with the boy's family that he did not have access to firearms in their home.
