PBI uncovers murder case of NDC office assistant, two people arrested

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has solved the mystery surrounding the murder of Notre Dame College (NDC) office assistant Lipika Gomez and arrested two killers.

“Lipika, 45, lived alone in an apartment in the capital's Sutrapur Rishikesh Das Lane area. She was found murdered in her apartment on September 11 after two of her colleagues were sent to enquire about her welfare as she was out of office that day. Police found her body on the bed with wounds on her head,” DIG (West Zone) Sayedur Rahman told reporters at a press conference at the PBI headquarters in the capital on Monday, BSS reports.

A team of PBI Dhaka Metro (North) led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sharif Mohammad Faruquzzaman launched an undercover investigation into the murder and finally managed to arrest the two murderers, Jewel (22) and Nazrul (22), on September 22.

The two arrested men had already confessed to their crimes during initial questioning and various valuables stolen from Lipika's apartment were found in their possession, the PBI official said.

The two killers, who had lived next door to Lipika's house, said they knew Lipika had lived alone in her apartment and thought they could make a fortune from the robbery.

“They broke into their residence at around 1 am on September 11 and started looting the house while Lipika was sound asleep. When Lipika eventually woke up and started making noises, Nazrul hit her with an iron rod and Jewel strangled her with a pillow. After confirming their deaths, the two killers ran away with Lipika's two mobile phones and her handbag with 26,350 taka in it,” added DIG Md Sayedur Rahman.

Among those present at the meeting were Deputy DIG Md Jahangir Alam, Head of PBI Dhaka Metro (North) Unit, Superintendent of Police Md Abu Eusuf and Deputy Superintendent of Police Sharif Mohammad Faruquzzaman.
