One dead in shooting with teenager in Punta Gorda

An 18-year-old is dead after being shot on Grapefruit Lane Saturday night. Officials say it was self-defense. Just before 11 p.m., Charlotte County officers responded to a Punta Gorda home where someone had been shot. The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man invited a 17-year-old boy inside to rob him. The Sheriff's Office said when a gun was pointed at the boy, he pulled out his own and fired before fleeing the scene. Officials say it appears to have been self-defense. PUNTA GORDA, Florida —

An 18-year-old is dead after being shot on Grapefruit Lane on Saturday night. Officials believe it was self-defense.

Shortly before 11 p.m., Charlotte County officials responded to a call to a home in Punta Gorda where someone had been shot.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man invited a 17-year-old boy over to rob him.

The sheriff's office said when a gun was pointed at the boy, he pulled out his own and fired before fleeing the scene.

Deputies say it appears to have been self-defense.

The CCSO found and arrested the teen. The sheriff's office says the investigation is currently ongoing.
