DPS investigates fatal accident in south Phoenix

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a pedestrian was involved in the accident.

PHOENIX — According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, one person is dead after an accident on Interstate 17 in south Phoenix.

DPS is investigating a crash involving a pedestrian on the Durango Curve that occurred around midnight. The road was closed early Monday morning and DPS told a 12News photojournalist on the scene that the pedestrian had died.

DPS told 12News that the man allegedly threw objects at cars. The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, DPS said.

DPS said they do not know what caused the accident. The agency did not release any further information.
