BURLINGTON, Washington – The Washington State Patrol (WSP) responded to a report of a hit-and-run crash on SR20 between Anacortes and Burlington around 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 22.

According to WSP, the crash involved a car and a motorcycle, each with one passenger. The initial investigation revealed that the two vehicles were traveling eastbound on SR20 when they stopped at the traffic light on Best Road and got into a physical altercation.

Both then continued east and the car collided with the motorcycle before reaching Avon Allen Road.

The motorcycle, a 2020 Harley-Davidson, came to a stop on the right shoulder and the motorcyclist landed on the ground, blocking both lanes. The car, a MINI Cooper hatchback, fled.

The motorcyclist, a 37-year-old man from Calgary, Alberta, was taken to Skagit Valley Hospital. He was wearing a helmet.

As a result of the accident, the eastbound lanes of SR20 in the area were closed for approximately three hours.

The incident remains under investigation and WSP is seeking information regarding the identity of the driver of the car involved.

Sunday was the day of the annual Oyster Run, an event in Anacortes that is billed as the “largest motorcycle race in the Pacific Northwest.” Organizers say the event draws 10,000 to 20,000 motorcycles.
