Statements in psychiatric clinic lead to arrest for murder in Horry County, state arrest warrants

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A man is behind bars after authorities identified him as the shooter in a fatal shooting in the Myrtle Beach area.

Horry County Police arrested 29-year-old Morgan Folta and charged him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Folta's charges stem from a September 12 shooting on Breakers Drive.

The Myrtle Beach man shot a woman in the head with a handgun “intentionally and with malicious intent,” resulting in her death, arrest warrants state.

The arrest warrants cite as evidence in the case statements Folta allegedly made to staff at Lighthouse Behavioral Hospital, a psychiatric hospital in the Conway area.

Jail records show police booked Folta into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Saturday, but public records show Folta's arrest date was Sunday.

At the time of this writing, he is still there and no bail has been set.

The shooting victim in this case has not yet been identified.
