More threats against schools, students arrested in Clay County

CELINA, Tenn. (WSMV) – Like many other school districts in Tennessee and across the country, Clay County Schools faced numerous threats to students and school grounds last week.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office reported that a call was received on September 16 about a threat to students at Hermitage Springs High School. An investigation was launched that was traced back to an incident that occurred over the weekend. No students or schools were in danger.

Then on Sept. 21, the sheriff's office was alerted to another potential threat to a school that was circulating online, which sparked another investigation involving the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security. The threat was deemed not credible and one person was arrested, the sheriff said.

The CCSO reminds everyone that threatening mass violence on school property or at school-related activities is a Class E felony and advises people to alert law enforcement of any alarming posts and not to share them.
