Motorcyclist dies in fiery accident in Litchfield after collision with pickup truck

LITCHFIELD (WGME) – A 29-year-old motorcyclist from Maine was killed in a serious crash in Litchfield on Sunday.

According to the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office, a Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a Toyota Tundra pickup truck near 435 Richmond Road around 9 a.m.

Officials say the motorcycle was underneath the pickup truck and the driver was pulled out from under the truck by passersby. The truck's driver, a 34-year-old man from Bowdoin, was able to get out of the truck. The vehicles then caught fire. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion after the vehicles caught fire.

According to officials, the motorcyclist, 29-year-old Jon W. Devoe of Turner, died at the scene of the accident.

According to officers, Devoe appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed and crossed the center line, landing directly in the path of the pickup truck.

No fees are expected at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
