1 dead after three-car crash on I-271: Beachwood police

BEACHWOOD, Ohio (WOIO) – Police say a man died Sunday in a three-car crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-271 in Beachwood.

According to a press release, officers were dispatched to the scene of the accident on I-271 southbound between Chagrin Boulevard and Harvard Road around 10:50 p.m.

Police and firefighters responded to the accident within minutes of their arrival, the press release said.

According to police, the accident initially occurred on the local lane of the highway, then one of the cars entered the overtaking lane and collided with a semi-trailer truck.

According to the report, a 40-year-old man from Mayfield Heights was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

The other two drivers were treated and released on site.

Police said the accident is currently under investigation.
