Horry County man allegedly aimed gun at victim during soccer game

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Horry County man admitted to pointing a gun at three people playing football near his home, documents show.

Horry County Police responded to a weapons incident on Sunny Pond Lane in the Aynor area shortly before 7 p.m. Friday.

The victims told police they were playing football on their lawn when 71-year-old Jeffrey Rotunno started yelling at them from the fence in his backyard.

According to a police report, Rotunno then pulled out a gun, pointed it at the victims and told them he was going to “blow their brains out.”

One of the victims ran into a house, the other two ran to the other side of the fence.

Officers entered Rotunno's home, found the gun and took it as evidence, the report said.

According to the arrest warrants, Rotunno admitted to drawing the gun and making the statement, adding that he was sorry.

Rotunno is charged with three counts of pointing and displaying a firearm at a person and first-degree assault.

Police took Rotunno to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Friday and he was released the next day on $32,500 bail.
