Tropical depression could threaten the Gulf Coast later this week

SUNDAY MORNING UPDATE

In the Atlantic, three areas with potential development are highlighted.

Two areas in the open Atlantic pose no threat to the United States over the next seven days, but the easternmost system has an increasing probability of forming: 40% within the next seven days.

The area that will make many headlines is in the western Caribbean Sea.

A low pressure system will form that has a HIGH probability of developing into a tropical depression or storm within the next seven days.

As the system is expected to move north, it poses a growing threat to the U.S. Gulf Coast. Those interested from Louisiana to Florida should keep a very close eye on the system and have plans in place to prepare for a possible tropical storm or hurricane by the weekend or earlier.

The system does not pose an immediate threat to the Carolinas at this time, but the chance of rain could increase as the system approaches the weekend.
