2 youths shot and injured in gang incident near Othello

Authorities were notified of the shooting around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night when Othello Community Hospital reported the shooting.

The two teenagers were taken to the emergency room with gunshot wounds.

The hospital said a 17-year-old male juvenile came to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the calf, and a short time later a second male teenager, 14, was admitted with wounds to his left hand and a firearm. Both teens' injuries were not life-threatening.

However, during the investigation, the Adams County Sheriff's Office stated that the two would not or could not provide specific, detailed information about the incident. They did say, however, that they were near the intersection of Taylor and Spur Roads, southwest of Othello.

They said a vehicle approached, the occupants showed gang signs and yelled at them, then fired at least 10 shots at the two and sped out of the area. The suspect vehicle has not yet been identified, and investigators found shell casings and other evidence at the scene. The teens were released to a parent, who was taken to the hospital.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the ACSO at (509)-659-1122. All information may be treated confidentially.
