Ware County High School closed

The school administration informed parents on Monday that officials were in the process of clearing the schoolyard.

WARE COUNTY, Ga. — Ware County High School was placed on lockdown Monday after law enforcement received reports of “a gunshot,” according to the school district. Officials said there is no indication of an active shooting at this time.

School officials told parents Monday that police were in the process of clearing the campus. While they do not believe this was a shooting, “school officials are taking the threat seriously and are following established protocols.”

Officials will release students from the high school once the building is cleared. School officials said parents will receive pick-up times and locations for their children shortly and asked them not to come onto school property at that time because it is cordoned off.

Ware County Schools sent the following message to parents:

Dear Parents, WCHS is currently under a curfew after receiving reports of a gunshot. Police are in the process of clearing campus. At this time, we do not believe this is a shooting as no evidence of one has been found, but we are taking the threat seriously and following our established protocols. Once the building is cleared, we will release students from the high school. Parents will receive information regarding pick-up times and locations. Please do not come to campus at this time. It is locked down. We will continue to send updates as they become available. Thank you.
