PM Modi's roundtable with 15 tech CEOs at MIT

New York:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today convened a high-level roundtable discussion with leading US technology CEOs on innovation, collaboration and India's growing technology sector. The meeting was held at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel and was part of Prime Minister Modi's three-day visit to the United States, the second stop of which is New York.

The panel, hosted by the School of Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), featured executives from companies specializing in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology.

Prominent CEOs such as Sundar Pichai of Google, Jensen Huang of Nvidia and Shantanu Narayen of Adobe took part in the roundtable discussion.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi said, “I had a fruitful round of discussions with tech CEOs in New York where we discussed aspects related to technology, innovation and more. It also highlighted the progress India has made in this area. I am happy to see the immense optimism towards India.”

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement that the roundtable discussion focused on cutting-edge sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, biotechnology and semiconductor technologies.

“The CEOs, along with the Prime Minister, engaged in intensive discussions on the evolving technology landscape at the global level and how these cutting-edge technologies are contributing to the well-being of people across the world, including in India. They also touched on how technology is being harnessed for innovations that have the potential to revolutionise the global economy and human development,” the MEA said in a statement.

On artificial intelligence (AI), the Prime Minister stressed that India’s policy is to promote “AI for all”, underpinned by its ethical and responsible use.

Prime Minister Modi also assured the CEOs of India's strong commitment to protecting intellectual property and promoting an enabling environment for technology-led innovation. He encouraged business leaders to capitalise on India's growth trajectory, pointing to the country's potential to become the world's third-largest economy.

The meeting also explored investment opportunities in India's emerging startup ecosystem, where technological innovation is advancing at an ever-increasing pace. Startups were seen as an important bridge for American companies to enter the Indian market and contribute to the development of new technologies and solutions.

MIT Professor Anantha Chandrakasan, who chaired the session, thanked Prime Minister Modi and the participating CEOs for their contributions. He reiterated MIT's continued commitment to using technology for the good of the world and advancing collaboration between the United States and India in critical technology sectors.
