Four cows died Monday morning in an accident on US-56 in Lyon County

ADMIRE, Kansas (WIBW) – At least four cattle were killed when they were hit by a car in northern Lyon County Monday morning, according to KVOE Radio.

The accident was reported around 2:30 a.m. Monday in the 1300 block of US-56 Highway between Allen and Admire. The accident site was about 20 miles north of Emporia.

Lyon County Sheriff's officials, along with the Allen-Admire Fire Department and Emporia-Lyon County Fire and Rescue Services arrived at the scene.

Lyon County Sheriff's Deputy Robert Miller told KVOE that 45-year-old Shawna Beck of Americus was traveling west on US-56 when at least five black cows climbed onto the highway.

Beck's car struck the small herd, killing at least four of the cows, KVOE reports.
