Cyclist seriously injured in head-on collision with car

SALT LAKE CITY – According to Salt Lake City police, a 45-year-old woman is seriously injured after an accident Sunday morning.

According to officials, the accident occurred around 12:07 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of 400 West and 800 South. An officer spotted a car stopped on the road with its hazard lights on.

As officers approached, they saw a 45-year-old woman lying on the street with numerous injuries. Emergency services took the victim to hospital with “life-threatening injuries.”

The driver of the car involved in the accident is cooperating with the investigation. Investigators believe that the woman was riding her bicycle westbound in the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with the car.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Team and technicians from the SLCPD Crime Lab were called to investigate.

The identity of the woman was not disclosed.
