Car stranded on highway leads to drug raid in Volusia County – WFTV

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – The Volusia Sheriff's Office said approximately 4 kilograms of MDMA and other drugs were seized from a broken-down car on the side of Interstate 4 Friday evening.

Deputies said they were called to the side of westbound I-4 at mile marker 107 for a broken-down car.

According to officials, the passenger, 30-year-old Carey Thomas Crownover of DeLand, was in the car and kicked the windshield.

Officers said they made contact with Crownover, who kicked him and began to resist while attempting to arrest him.

Investigators said they found 1,426 grams of MDMA, 1,016 grams of amphetamine and 4 grams of ketamine along with cannabis.

VSO said following a search warrant at Crownover's DeLand home, investigators found additional drugs, including 2,516 grams of MDMA, 363 grams of cocaine, 1,000 grams of psilocybin, 510 grams of amphetamine, as well as alprazolam, 2C, LSD and cannabis.

Investigators said they also found 11 firearms, one of which had been reported stolen in Lake County.

According to VSO, Crownover was charged with armed trafficking of MDMA, amphetamines and cocaine, possession of psilocybin, LSD and cannabis with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest with violence and assault on a police officer.

Crownover's father, Carey David Crownover, who also lives in the same home, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, officials said.

The driver was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The sheriff's office said additional charges are possible pending the completion of the investigation.
