The 81-year-old driver now faces further charges.

An 81-year-old man is now facing charges after a second death occurred in a boat trailer accident on Cape Cod last month, authorities said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the boat trailer on Aug. 30, identified as Peter Richmond of Yarmouth Port, is now charged with a second count of involuntary manslaughter, according to a statement from Yarmouth police. The accident occurred on North Main Street in Yarmouth, just south of the intersection with Great Western Road.

John Hughan, 14, of Norwell, died in the accident and two others were taken to Cape Cod Hospital, police initially said.

“Passing away far too soon, he will be remembered for his great dedication to all he did, for the love and kindness he radiated, and his compassion for his friends and family,” Hughan's obituary said.

Cornelius Allen Bottomley, 54, of Hanover, died Sept. 13 from injuries sustained in the car crash that also killed his nephew Hughan, police said in an updated statement.

The two were working on the boat trailer, which had become inoperable due to a broken axle, when Richmond's vehicle struck it from behind, police said.

“The Yarmouth Police Department extends its condolences and deepest sympathy to the families affected by this tragic incident,” the statement said.
