Cam Teague from Mobile will fight in Dana White's Contender Series

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) – It’s been quite a journey in the Octagon for Cam Teague, but for the Faith Academy graduate it all started as a hobby.

“I was working in the oil field and I was bored. So I found a hobby after work and started fighting just for fun,” said Cam Teague.

Cam has spent the last few years training at Port City MMA, where fighting quickly evolved from a hobby into his profession.

“He came in as a crazy kid, pretty wild,” said Cams head coach Michael Barnett. “He got his nickname Chaos because he was always wild and doing wild things. As an amateur, he would put on wild fights.”

All those wild fights have paid off. Cam officially turned pro about a year and a half ago and already has a 7-0 record with 2 submissions and 4 knockouts. His most recent win came against former UFC fighter Austin Lingo in Lingo's hometown of Dallas, Texas.

“People out there told us, oh, this would be a good learning experience for Cam, and Cam went there and locked him away in his hometown,” Barnett said.

“That's what I try to do. I always say I come to finish or try to finish,” Teague said. “I hate it when it goes to the judges and the way I fight shows that.”

Cam's reputation rose after the fight, resulting in him getting a call to fight in Dana White's Contender Series just seven weeks after his last fight.

“I've always said no matter what happens in my life at any time, any place,” Teague said, “I'm going to go out there and prove that I'm one of the best in the world.”

He has been training non-stop for the past few weeks to face Kevin Vallejos (13-1), and if all goes well, he could be on his way to a UFC contract.

“This is what I've been working for since I started fighting. It would be a great feeling for my grandfather who got me into this sport and is no longer here,” Teague added. “So to get to that next level, that next level that we always had our eyes on, would mean the world to me.”

Cam will face Vallejos in a featherweight bout tomorrow night at the Apex in Las Vegas. The fight will be broadcast on ESPN+.
