Antioch Police: Charges filed in fatal drunk driving accident

Antioch police announced that charges have been filed with the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office in connection with a fatal driving accident while under the influence of alcohol.

According to police, the case has been filed with the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office. The charges are: vehicular manslaughter – PC 192(C)(1) felony, driving while intoxicated causing death – VC 23153(a) felony, hit and run causing death – VC 20001 felony

On July 27, 2024, at approximately 12:10 a.m., Antioch Police Officers responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of ​​Lone Tree Way and Sagebrush Drive. Upon officers' arrival, it was determined that a vehicle had struck an adult female who was riding a bicycle. Officers administered first aid until ConFire paramedics arrived. Unfortunately, the female succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by emergency personnel.

The 38-year-old male driver (Antioch resident) of the vehicle involved remained on scene and was contacted by patrol officers. Alcohol was suspected as a contributing factor. Antioch Police Department Traffic Investigators arrived on scene and took over the traffic accident investigation.

The male driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily harm or death. The investigation is in its early stages and the names of the parties involved will not be released pending proper notification.
