Georgia woman arrested after robbery at Ormond Beach credit union | Local news from the Observer

Ormond Beach police arrested a 32-year-old woman on Monday, September 23, after police say she robbed the Launch Credit Union at 240 Williamson Blvd.

According to the police report, officers responded to a panic alarm at the credit union around 10:30 a.m. The woman, identified as Shadae James of Stone Mountain, Georgia, reportedly handed a bank teller a note demanding cash. She claimed to have a gun and threatened violence if anyone resisted, a news release said. The bank teller complied and handed over the money, and James fled the scene on foot.

Police obtained surveillance photos from the credit union and, with assistance from the Volusia Sheriff's Office, began searching the area. James was found at the Sleep Inn at 170 Willamson Blvd., where she was arrested.

James “cooperated with authorities and made a full confession,” the press release states. All of the stolen money was recovered.

Officers also found two notes written by James. One threatened to use a weapon, the other mentioned explosives. James did not have a firearm on him during the robbery.

No injuries were reported and the bank confirmed it plans to press charges. James is charged with armed robbery, which includes penalties for robbery with threat of use of a weapon.

“Outstanding work by our officers and the Volusia Sheriff's Office,” said Ormond Beach Police Chief Jesse Godfrey. “The quick, coordinated response ensured the swift apprehension of the suspect and underscores the commitment of our law enforcement to keeping this city safe.”
