Green Day receives city key in Bay Area hometown of Pinole

PINOLE, Calif. (KGO) – One of the Bay Area's biggest rock bands returned to familiar territory on Sunday.

Members of Green Day were in their hometown of Pinole for a very special occasion.

They received the key to the city at a ceremony in front of a 7-Eleven, directly across from Pinole Valley High School.

It's the same place the band sings about in several of their songs.

Sunday's ceremony also marked the 30th anniversary of the release of the band's hit album “Dookie.”

The band members also took the time to sign a mural dedicated to them in front of the store.

And they're now working with 7-Eleven, too. The store now carries Punk Bunny Coffee, Green Day's coffee brand.
