88-year-old dies from injuries sustained in car accident in Omaha

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – A man injured in a crash in west Omaha last month has died.

Omaha police announced Monday that 88-year-old George Young died in hospital from injuries sustained in a car accident shortly before 11 p.m. on August 30.

An investigation revealed that a Ford Escape, driven by Talynn O'Shaughnessy-Chaney, 26, abruptly changed lanes and collided with Young's Nissan Altima while traveling south on I-680 near the Dodge Street interchange.

Young was trapped in his vehicle after it struck the barrier, rolled over and slid onto its roof. Emergency crews took Young to hospital in critical condition, where he remained until he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

According to police, O'Shaughnessy-Chaney was found to have a “significant amount of alcohol” in her blood during a breathalyzer test at the scene of the accident. She was released from the hospital the day after the accident and booked into jail on charges of drunken driving and reckless driving.

New charges against O'Shaughnessy-Chaney are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
