Man from Martinez allegedly made a threat at Evans Theater

EVANS, Georgia (WRDW/WAGT) – A threat forced a movie theater in Evans to temporarily close on Sunday, but it has since reopened.

Columbia County officers were dispatched to the Evans 14 movie theater, 4365 Towne Center Drive, at 11:25 a.m. Sunday to investigate a report of a person threatening to shoot people, authorities said.

An officer found a gun in the front right pants pocket of the suspect, who authorities identified as Travonta Monquez Epps, 21, of Martinez.

Epps approached a deputy in an “aggressive manner” and directed his yelling at him, according to an incident report from the deputies.

According to the report, officers ordered Epps to lie face down on the ground, which he did. He was handcuffed.

However, on the way to the patrol car, he resisted, according to the officers.

According to jail records, Epps was booked into the Columbia County Jail on charges of terroristic threats and acts, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.

Total bail was set at $11,300 and he remained in custody Monday, records show.
