Man accused of shooting MPs sentenced in federal indictment

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (WMC) – A federal judge sentenced a Memphis man to nine years in prison.

Jaquan Bridges, 22, was charged with possession of a machine gun.

Bridges was arrested in February 2022 when an officer attempted to stop him in the area of I-240 and Walnut Grove Road.

Bridges rolled down his window and fired shots at the deputy's vehicle, then embarked on a chase with the other officers that ended with him colliding with several other vehicles and a concrete barrier.

The officers confiscated a Glock with a switch and an extended magazine.

In February 2024, Bridges pleaded guilty to possession of a machine gun.

He was later sentenced to 108 months in a federal prison, followed by three years of probation.

“We have a serious problem with gun violence in Memphis,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Fondren. “This conviction demonstrates our continued commitment to prosecuting violent offenders and bringing to justice those who violate federal gun laws and endanger our community. Our office will continue to work with the Project Safe Neighborhoods Task Force and other law enforcement partners to reduce violent crime in our community. The citizens of Memphis and Shelby County deserve to feel safe.”
