Deputy arrested after domestic disturbance

LIVINGSTON PARISH, Louisiana (WAFB) – According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, a deputy was arrested following a domestic dispute in the Denham Springs area.

The deputy is 55-year-old Kelvin Higginbotham. He was arrested for domestic violence and illegal use of weapons.

According to LPSO, authorities were called to a crime scene in the Denham Springs area shortly after midnight on Monday, September 23.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they learned that a shot had been fired from a personal weapon inside a home, officials said, adding that no one was injured but Higginbotham was taken into custody.

Higginbotham was immediately fired from the LPSO. Officials said he had been serving part-time with the Marine Division since May and was also a reserve deputy.

Higginbotham was taken to the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
