Surprise police say fatal shooting was a murder-suicide

Two men are dead after a shooting early Monday morning in Surprise. Police believe it was a murder followed by suicide.

On September 23, around 5 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting at a business near Loop 303 and Bell Road.

At the scene, officers found two men with gunshot wounds in a parking lot. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigators have identified the victim as 43-year-old Daniel Roman, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Lucas Izzo, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” Surprise police said.

Investigators believe the shooting was due to Roman's relationship with Izzo's ex-wife.

“IIzzo fired several shots without provocation, hitting Roman before turning the gun on himself,” police said.
