Jury finds Maui man guilty of beating 11-month-old boy nearly to death in 2021

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A jury found a Maui man guilty Monday of beating a young boy nearly to death three years ago.

Christian Rosete was found guilty on all five counts, including attempted murder, assault and abuse.

Closing arguments were concluded on Friday.

He is accused of repeatedly beating his girlfriend's 11-month-old son in 2021.

His maximum sentence is life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

According to court documents, the baby had bruising on his face, bite marks on his arm, burns, a broken wrist, bleeding in both eyes, a detached retina, brain hemorrhages and was extremely malnourished.

Both sides agreed that what had happened to the infant was horrific.

However, the prosecution tried to prove that Rosete was the perpetrator, while the defense claimed it was the child's mother, Passion Quirk.

Quirk, 26, was also initially charged with attempted murder for failing to stop him and report him to authorities.

Quirk made a deal with prosecutors earlier this year, pleading guilty to the lesser charge of assault in exchange for her testimony against Rosete.

Even with the agreement, Quirk faces a maximum of ten years behind bars.
