Student arrested, police say she attacked professor with metal water bottle – Annenberg Media

According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS), a USC student was arrested Monday morning after hitting a professor in the head with a metal water bottle during class.

At around 11:00 a.m., DPS received a call regarding an assault in Room 112 of Verna and Peter Dauterive Hall and the student was later arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

A witness to the incident, who asked not to be identified because of the ongoing investigation, said he believes the attack was unprovoked. The witness also said the student had a tantrum before class started, screaming and slamming her water bottle on the table.

DPS Deputy Chief David Carlisle issued a statement to Annenberg Media regarding the incident.

“The professor was treated at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel and transported to a local hospital. The student was detained nearby and arrested by DPS officers. The student is [booked] with the LAPD for assault with a deadly weapon,” Carlisle wrote.

The student has not been identified. This is a developing story.
