Barricade situation requires large police presence in Stone Mountain district

ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – A barricade situation prompted a large police presence in a DeKalb County neighborhood near Memorial Drive Monday night.

Officers, including members of the SWAT team, responded to the 900 block of Meadow Rock Drive, near Memorial Drive.

The authorities are urging the population to avoid the area.

DeKalb County police said they responded after being notified of an armed person experiencing a mental health crisis in a home around 6:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they heard gunshots coming from the house. They said their SWAT unit is now on site and “working toward a safe resolution.”

DeKalb police said their officers did not fire any shots. They said no one was injured, although an officer from the Mobile Crisis Unit “discovered a defect in his duty belt but was otherwise unharmed.”

An Atlanta News First team observed at least two dozen patrol cars in the area.
