‘Serious’ accident on Memorial Drive injures cyclist, police say

Local news

Cambridge Police and Massachusetts State Police arrived at the scene.

Authorities responded to a “serious” car crash on Memorial Drive Monday evening, Cambridge police said.

The accident, which occurred around 5:45 p.m., involved a car and a cyclist, the department said in a statement.

The Massachusetts State Police also became aware of the accident and announced that they were investigating the incident. “Due to the severity” of the cyclist's injuries, several departments were involved in the investigation, including forensic officers and detectives, the State Police said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. State police said they and Cambridge police temporarily closed Memorial Drive Monday evening to search the scene.

Photos of the accident reported by WCVB5 show what appears to be a badly damaged bicycle on the street with debris scattered along the road.

State police did not comment on the cyclist's condition or whether the driver is cooperating with law enforcement.
