Congratulations, Bruce Springsteen! The Boss turns 75

Little things, Mom, one day become big things.

Bruce Springsteen is 75. The Boss was born today on September 23, 1949 to Adele and Douglas Springsteen at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch.

He weighed 6.6 pounds.

The Springsteens brought their little darling home to Freehold. Eventually he got his hands on a guitar – and the rest is history.

It is also Bruce Springsteen Day in New Jersey.

“Bruce Springsteen is one of the most recognizable, iconic and influential musicians – and New Jerseyans – of all time,” Murphy said in a statement announcing the day in 2023. “It's important that we recognize Bruce for all he has done and will continue to do, from the gift of his music to devoting his time to causes close to his heart.”

One such purpose, for example, is that when Springsteen tours, he always asks his audience, whom he invites to the venue, to donate to a local food bank.

Bruce and the E Street Band have been touring extensively over the past year. The guys are still filling arenas and stadiums around the world. On September 15th they also played in front of 35,000 people on the beach in Asbury Park at the Sea Hear Now Festival.

There is no stopping now, Bruce said in his last shows, and a farewell tour is not in sight either.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Bruce said from the stage at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on August 23.

This is music to the ears of his fans.

“On behalf of Spring-Nuts, we would like to wish Bruce a very happy birthday!” Howie Chaz, founder of the Spring-Nuts Facebook group, said via email. “What Bruce is doing on stage today is living proof that age is nothing more than a number. Bruce is the youngest 75-year-old we know! We also want to thank him for the countless years of music and entertainment that have changed the lives of so many and brought us all together. Spring-Nuts worldwide wishes you nothing but good health, long life, love, peace and happiness!”

The Spring-Nuts filmed a birthday message to Springsteen on August 25 at Asbury Lanes, where they were hosting their annual Spring-Nuts Seaside Serenade. The message was shared today.

Still, this birthday is bittersweet. It is Bruce's first without his mother, who died on January 31 at the age of 98.

Bruce thanked Adele and her sisters Dora Kirby and Eda Urbelis for infecting the young Boss with his passion for music.
