Livingston Parish deputy arrested and charged with domestic violence, sheriff's office says | Crime/Police

A Livingston Parish sheriff's officer was arrested and charged with domestic violence after a gun went off in a home, the sheriff's office said Monday.

Kelvin Higginbotham, 55, was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on charges of domestic violence and illegal use of a weapon.

The sheriff's office responded to a complaint of a domestic dispute in the Denham Springs area just after midnight Monday. According to Sheriff Jason Ard, a shot was fired from a personal weapon inside the home during the dispute.

“Our LPSO DV department has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for EVERYONE,” Ard said in a Facebook post.

Higginbotham had worked part-time with the LPSO's Marine Division since May 2023 and also served as a reserve deputy. He was fired immediately, the sheriff's office said.
