Updated – The Ventura County Sheriff's Office says one of the two teenagers involved in a chase and subsequent crash in Camarillo early Sunday morning remains in critical condition.

The 17-year-old male was the driver of the suspect vehicle and was ejected when the vehicle went out of control, resulting in a single-vehicle rollover crash on northbound 101 near Carmen Drive in Camarillo shortly after midnight Sunday morning.

He was taken to VCMC in Ventura and later to Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, where he was in critical condition, according to the sheriff's office.

The 17-year-old male passenger, who climbed out of the wreckage under his own power and surrendered to officers, was treated for his injuries at VCMC and subsequently released.

The sheriff's office said the two teens are suspected of being involved in the theft of alcohol from the CVS store on Carmen Drive in Camarillo.

A short time later, the vehicle was spotted by a sheriff's sergeant and attempted to make a traffic stop because it matched the description of the vehicle involved in the theft and its headlights were off.

The vehicle ultimately did not yield and a short chase began, which led from the country roads onto the 101 northbound at Lewis Road.

The accident occurred shortly afterwards near Carmen Drive.
