One dead, two hospitalized after accident at intersection in northeast Columbus

One person is dead and two others are in the hospital after an accident in northeast Columbus on Tuesday.

According to police, the accident occurred at 12:54 a.m. at the intersection of Woodland and East 17th Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found that it was involved in a car crash between a tan and a red sedan.

According to authorities, the driver of the tan sedan was taken to Grant Medical Center in stable condition and his passenger was also taken to Dame Hospital, but in critical condition.

The driver of the red sedan was temporarily trapped in her car, but was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. She later died in the hospital.

The accident was captured by a Columbus Police Department Community Crime Camera, and shows the red sedan running a red light and then being struck from the side by the tan sedan, which had been running a green light.

The Accident Investigation Unit is currently conducting the investigation and police say the intersection will remain closed for an extended period of time while detectives search the scene of the accident.
