Melbourne shooting: Man arrested for murder after fatal shooting near Eddie Lee Taylor Park, police say

A Palm Bay man was arrested following a fatal shooting near a Melbourne park, police said.

Andrew Guzman, 30, was arrested on Monday on a warrant at a family member's home in Palm Bay, Melbourne police said in a news release.

He is charged with first-degree intentional murder with a firearm, attempted first-degree intentional murder with a firearm, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

On Saturday, a large crowd gathered at Eddie Lee Taylor Park on Monroe Street to watch youth soccer games. Another large crowd was also at the park after the funeral of Craig Dewberry, a man who was shot and killed at Tip Top Mini Market on Sept. 10.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m., police said, shots were heard at the entrance to the park, causing the crowd to run off in different directions.

Officers later determined that two people had been shot. One was taken by car to a local hospital in critical condition. The other victim was found in the parking lot and taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he later died.

Police identified him as 31-year-old Devon Lakes of Palm Bay.
