Driving under the influence of alcohol. An Ormond Beach woman was arrested for drunken driving after she nearly collided with a sheriff's deputy's patrol car on Interstate 95.

The officer was on the shoulder of the highway with his headlights and taillights on when the woman's Ford came into view, according to her arrest report. The Ford left the road and ended up on the shoulder, forcing the officer to move his car out of the lane.

A second officer arrived at the scene and, as he approached the driver, noticed that the smell of alcohol was coming from inside the car and that the woman had glassy, watery and dilated eyes, the report said.

The officer asked the woman to exit the vehicle to perform a sobriety test, at which point the woman – who was also wearing wedge heels at the time – lost her balance and stumbled to the back of her vehicle to perform the test.

Although the woman only admitted to drinking one glass of wine over nine hours earlier, she failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test. She was taken to the county jail.

Arrest report

4:32 a.m. – 295 mile marker, Interstate 95, Palm Coast

A false name was given to law enforcement. To avoid trouble for an outstanding arrest warrant, a Jacksonville man gave a sheriff's deputy the name of his criminal brother during a traffic stop.

The deputy was traveling on Interstate 95 when a Hyundai passed him at excessive speed, according to a police report. The deputy had to drive about 116 mph to catch up to the car, which was still traveling 80 mph despite gradually slowing in a 70 mph zone.

The driver actually stopped to check traffic. There were two men in the car. The driver told the officer that he did not have his license, even though he had stated that he was on his way south to gamble.

Instead, he gave the officer the name of his brother, who has a criminal record. When asked that the photo did not match the other one, the suspect admitted to giving his brother's name instead.

The man was arrested while the passenger was released.
