The Strad – “Rare instruments, greed and brutal murder”: New documentary about a guitar maker and the murder of his daughter

Bloomberg Investigates has released a feature-length documentary about the tragic torture and murder of 62-year-old German guitar maker Bernard von Bredow and his 14-year-old daughter in Aregua, Paraguay, on October 22, 2021. Von Bredow and his daughter were shot in their home; there is evidence of torture.

The documentary examines how the murders were likely linked to von Bredow's rare instrument collection, which included instruments by Stradivari. It also outlines the varied life of the guitar maker, who was interested in paleontology, among other things. In 1975, at the age of 16, he discovered a large mammoth skeleton near his home in Siegdorf. The film includes interviews with von Bredow's friends and family, journalists, von Bredow's lawyer, the prosecutor in the case, and some of those accused of the crime.
