Hazlehurst teenager behind bars after suspected murder on local basketball court

A 17-year-old from Hazlehurst is behind bars for allegedly shooting a man at a local basketball court.

According to Hazlehurst police, 23-year-old Jaylen Larry was struck by multiple bullets around 7 p.m. Monday. Larry was transported from the basketball court at the Hazlehurst Softball Complex to Copiah County Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators quickly determined that 17-year-old Jeremiah Wilson was the suspect. Wilson turned himself in to Brookhaven police officers and was charged with murder.

Police believe there was a verbal argument between Larry and Wilson before violence occurred.
