List: School closures in Tampa Bay area ahead of possible storm

TAMPA, Florida – The Tampa Bay Area is bracing for the impacts of potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, which is expected to develop into Hurricane Helene by mid-week.

In preparation for the upcoming tropical weather, local school districts have announced some closures and cancellations.

Here you will find a list of cancellations for courses and extracurricular activities in the Tampa Bay area.

Schools in Citrus County will be closed on Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27. On Wednesday, September 25, schools will be open only half day.

There will be no extracurricular activities or extra-curricular activities on all three days.

Hernando County schools and district offices will be closed Wednesday, September 25 and Thursday, September 26.

All extracurricular activities, including YMCA and Boys & Girls Club, will also be cancelled on these days.

“After we learn more about the storm’s potential impact on our community, we will make a decision on reopening schools on Friday,” the school district wrote.

Highlands County Schools will continue to monitor weather developments in the Gulf of Mexico before making a decision.

Hillsborough County Schools have not yet announced any cancellations.

Classes in Pasco County schools will begin on Tuesday, September 24. The district continues to monitor weather conditions.

Pinellas County schools and offices will be open for normal operations and school-related activities on Tuesday, September 24.

District authorities will announce a decision on the closures by 11 a.m. Tuesday.

No school closures are planned for Polk County, but county officials are working with emergency management to continue monitoring weather conditions in the Gulf.

Manatee County schools will reopen for normal operations, including extracurricular activities and sporting events, on Tuesday, September 24. The district continues to monitor weather conditions.

Sarasota County Schools have not yet announced any cancellations.
