Martin County man allegedly attacked his wife

MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – A Martin County man is facing charges in connection with an incident in which a verbal argument escalated into physical violence.

On Sunday, officers with the Martin County Sheriff's Department responded to a domestic violence complaint at a home in Lovely Township.

When police arrived at the scene, they separated Amos Evans and his wife.

Evans' wife told officers that the argument turned physical when Amos grabbed her hand, cupped her cheek and neck, and began choking her.

Evans' wife said her husband put pressure on her throat, making it difficult for her to breathe. The incident lasted about two minutes.

Officers were told Evans took a metal flashlight and began smashing the windshield of his wife's van.

After reporting the damage to the van, she stated that Amos Evans hit her on the head several times with the flashlight.

Amos Evans was charged with second-degree assault (domestic violence) and first-degree strangulation (related to domestic violence).

He was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center
