Woman arrested in robbery at Launch Credit Union in Ormond Beach

ORMOND BEACH, Florida. – A 32-year-old woman was arrested Monday on charges of robbing a Launch Credit Union in Ormond Beach.

Ormond Beach police said Tuesday that Shadae James was arrested for armed robbery.

According to police, officers responded to a panic alarm at the credit union around 10:30 a.m. and were informed that a woman had handed a bank employee a note demanding cash. The woman claimed to have a gun and threatened to harm her if anyone resisted her demands, police said.

The cashier complied and gave the woman, later identified as James, some money, police said.

James subsequently fled the scene, but was found at the nearby Sleep Inn at 170 Williamson Boulevard and arrested without incident, according to police.

Officials said James was cooperative and made a full confession. All of the stolen money was recovered.

Officers said they also found two notes written by James – one threatening to use a weapon, the other mentioning explosives. However, James said she did not have a weapon during the robbery, according to police.

“Outstanding work by our officers and the Volusia Sheriff's Office,” said Ormond Beach Police Chief Jesse Godfrey. “The quick, coordinated response resulted in the swift arrest of the suspect and underscores the commitment of our law enforcement to keeping this city safe.”

No injuries were reported.
