“It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved Michaela was tragically taken from us far too soon,” wrote Mackenzie Prater, the organizer of the GoFundMe campaign. “She was the victim of a senseless act of violence and a beloved mother, daughter and friend.”

The goal was set at $10,000 to “cover unexpected expenses and ensure her family can grieve without worry,” Prater wrote.

“Let us come together as a community to support her family during this unimaginable time,” Prater added.

As of 1:40 p.m., the GoFundMe campaign had reached nearly half of its goal.
